FCLaw partner, Jorge Menezes, was selected by Macau Business as one chose the “20 most influential personalities in Macau” since the Handover, those “who over the past 20 years have made their mark in Macau, whether because of their position or actions, or because they have made their voice stand out”. The list includes the three Macau Chief Executives, legislators and other powerful politicians and businesspeople.
The widely read Macau Business chose Menezes for having assumed “the role of a countercurrent voice in defense of the essential principles set out in the Luso-Chinese Joint Declaration and the Basic Law”.
Menezes said that “More than an individual distinction, I believe it conveys a civic message: that one does not need to hold institutional positions or power to play a potential influential role in a community’s life; that the city belongs to us all, not only to those who hold political or economic positions and exert institutional power. For this reason in particular, I’m grateful for having been included in the list.”
Menezes, who was also selected as one of the 20 most influential people in the life of the Macau SAR by the Portuguese newspaper Ponto Final, was, together with the President of the Bar Association, the only lawyer and the only Portuguese-born element among the 20.
