Miriam Enes Baganha

Miriam Enes Baganha

Miriam Enes Baganha joined the FC Law legal team in 2018 and has since been working as a jurist mainly in the areas of labour and commercial law.

Prior to coming to Macau, she worked as a lawyer for two major law firms in Portugal and then joined the leading Portuguese IT Group as a senior lawyer.

Miriam has advised both national and international clients in various M&A operations, with the negotiation of international commercial contracts and also provided regular assistance to clients on their ongoing commercial activities. Miriam also focused on Administrative and Competition Law and worked on international public tenders and project finance. She has also worked for the Court of Justice of the European Union as a free-lance linguist lawyer.

Nana, Kuok Chong Na

Nana, Kuok Chong Na

Nana joined FCLaw Lawyers and Private Notaries as an Associate in September of 2019 after working for 4 years at another top law firm in Macau.

Nana focuses on corporate management and compliance practices assisting numerous international and local groups in their business and contracts in Macau.

In her Banking & Finance practice, she advises lenders, borrowers and guarantors on the full range of financing documentation and also in relation to compliance with local regulations.

In her Real Estate practice, she has specialized in transactional matters, including notary and tax related, and assists in drafting, documenting and advising purchasers, sellers and lenders on acquisitions and related securities.

Her practice encompasses a wide range of legal matters related to the governmental licensing. Nana has been very active in advising international corporations in reviewing their data privacy policies and procedures for compliance with Macau law, which includes filing of notifications and authorizations to the Macau authorities.

On July 2019, Nana worked alongside with Lai Kim Hong Jacky, as legal counsel to the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, in assisting the said PRC governmental entity in the first sovereign bond issue program in Macau and issuing the necessary legal opinion.

She is the first Macau citizen becoming licensed lawyer in Mainland China.

She has published works on intellectual property law system of Macau and on analysis and suggestions for applying Guangdong Well-Known Trademarks for Macau companies doing business in Guangdong.

Paulo Cordeiro de Sousa

Paulo Cordeiro de Sousa

Paulo joined FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries in 2016 and leads the “Tax and Cross-Country Investment” department.

Paulo was a tax partner at Abreu Advogados, one of the major law firms in Portugal and before that, he was the head of the tax department at Albuquerque & Associados – Sociedade de Advogados, also a leading law firm in Lisbon.
He has also worked as legal adviser for a leading bank in Luanda, Angola. Paulo has been working in tax law since 1992 and his practice includes tax litigation in the Macanese, Portuguese, Angolan and Equatorial Guinean jurisdictions (mostly related to the oil & gas sector in the last two jurisdictions).

Paulo contributes to a large circulation local newspaper with monthly articles on Macanese tax-related matters.

Rodrigo Mendia de Castro

Rodrigo Mendia de Castro

Rodrigo founded FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries in 2003 and is a highly regarded lawyer in Macau. As the head of the commercial and financing departments, he has been assisting financial institutions, banks, developers, luxury retailers, gaming operators, construction companies, real estate owners and aviation leasing companies in their financing, set up, acquisitions, spin-off and restructure of the full scope of their business operations, participating in most of the largest commercial and finance projects and transactions over the past years and representing most of the key economic players.

He is also actively involved in the litigation department, with most pending cases in court, and represented the Macau Government, namely the Public Works Department, on disputes against engineers and architects. According to the website of the Macau Courts, he is the lawyer with one of the highest number of attendances at Court Hearings in Macau.

He acted as legal adviser in the first listing and initial public offering of a Macau construction entity on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and, since then, has been acting in all subsequent listings and initial public offerings of Macau entities with all sort of activities. He has been acting in arbitrations in Hong Kong as an expert witness on Macau law.

He is co-author of the Macau Chapter of the book “International Franchise Sales Laws, Second Edition”, edited and published by the American Bar Association, and has published articles in the Asian Gaming Lawyer magazine.
