FCLaw Lawyers and Notaries, in solidarity with the needs of all those who, directly and indirectly, provide health services to the community, as well as in solidarity with the Macau population, has donated to the Macau SAR’s Government 5,000 protective and certified facial masks. In so doing, FCLaw Lawyers and Notaries has contributed to the Government-led mission of assisting any person from our community, which we take in its broadest sense of everyone who contributes to Macau’s economy, culture and social life, and of all those who have been simply living in Macau, whatever their age, health conditions, origin, nationality, ethnicity and stronger or weaker residency status. FCLaw Lawyers and Notaries is thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the efforts levied against the Covid-19 pandemic (https://www.gov.mo/zh-hant/news/326939/).

The news was published by the Macau Daily Times which shows how important these contributions are for the community. Please see https://macaudailytimes.com.mo/briefs-fc-law-donates-5000-masks-to-govt.html.

FCLaw Partner one of the “20 most influential” in the history of the Macau SAR!

FCLaw partner, Jorge Menezes, was selected by Macau Business as one chose the "20 most influential personalities in Macau" since the Handover, those "who over the past 20 years have made their mark in Macau, whether because of their position or actions, or because they have made their voice stand out". The list includes the three Macau Chief Executives, legislators and other powerful politicians and businesspeople.

The widely read Macau Business chose Menezes for having assumed "the role of a countercurrent voice in defense of the essential principles set out in the Luso-Chinese Joint Declaration and the Basic Law".

Menezes said that “More than an individual distinction, I believe it conveys a civic message: that one does not need to hold institutional positions or power to play a potential influential role in a community’s life; that the city belongs to us all, not only to those who hold political or economic positions and exert institutional power. For this reason in particular, I’m grateful for having been included in the list.”

Menezes, who was also selected as one of the 20 most influential people in the life of the Macau SAR by the Portuguese newspaper Ponto Final, was, together with the President of the Bar Association, the only lawyer and the only Portuguese-born element among the 20.

FCLaw participated in the 1st Macau Lawyers’ Congress

FCLaw participated in the 1st Macau Lawyers’ Congress, with our lawyers Anabela Lei Hoi Chi and Julio Anjos acting as speakers in the Panel destined to the “Protection of Rights”.

The Congress had been held in September 20-21, 2019 under the main theme “The Advocacy in the 20th Anniversary of the Macau SAR: Reflection on the Future,” and was attended by lawyers, magistrates, academics, Government legal advisors and overseas legal experts.

Our lawyers Anabela Lei Hoi Chi and Julio Anjos played a major role by presenting a speech in which they pointed out a few issues that have been arising from the judicial practice and that have been prejudicial to the rights of the victims in criminal proceedings. The speech aimed to propose a solution to those questions in order to achieve a fairer legal system for better protection of people’s rights.

Our partner Jorge Menezes, lawyer Paulo Cordeiro and trainee lawyers Jasmine Ka Hei Ng, Kuok Ka Man and Rafael Lai also attended the Congress, with Jorge Menezes having made some pertinent comments throughout the panel discussion.
