Jorge Menezes

Joined FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries as a partner in 2017.

He acted as counsel in Macau, Portugal and Lao PDR courts, as well as in domestic, ICSID and international commercial arbitrations. Submitted reports and/or acted as an expert witness in the United States, Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong (Department of Justice).

Distinguished by Macau Daily Times as the “Person of the Year” in its “2018 Year in Review” (open to anyone, including politicians, entrepreneurs, academics, artists and other professionals) and with an “Honourable Mention” for a “historic win” in a complex legal action in its “2018 Year in Review”.

As an academic, he lectured in Portugal at three Faculties of Law and the Law Society, as well as at the Faculty of Law in Guinea-Bissau. In the United Kingdom, he lectured at the Stanford University (Program in Oxford) and University of Oxford (St Hilda’s College). At the University of Oxford, he was a Research Fellow at Wolfson College and elected member of its Governing Body, and co-convener of the Jurisprudence Discussion Group (Faculty of Law). Presented several papers in conferences in Oxford, London, Hong Kong, Lisbon and elsewhere. Published articles in academic journals in Portugal, Macau, Hong Kong and England, and contributed with articles in five edited books.

For the Macau Government, he worked as researcher and consultant for the Macau Legislative Legal Affairs Office (1998) and the Macau Gaming Commission for the Tendering Process to Grant three Concessions to operate Casinos (2001-02).

Rodrigo Mendia de Castro

Rodrigo Mendia de Castro

Rodrigo founded FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries in 2003 and is a highly regarded lawyer in Macau. As the head of the commercial and financing departments, he has been assisting financial institutions, banks, developers, luxury retailers, gaming operators, construction companies, real estate owners and aviation leasing companies in their financing, set up, acquisitions, spin-off and restructure of the full scope of their business operations, participating in most of the largest commercial and finance projects and transactions over the past years and representing most of the key economic players.

He is also actively involved in the litigation department, with most pending cases in court, and represented the Macau Government, namely the Public Works Department, on disputes against engineers and architects. According to the website of the Macau Courts, he is the lawyer with one of the highest number of attendances at Court Hearings in Macau.

He acted as legal adviser in the first listing and initial public offering of a Macau construction entity on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and, since then, has been acting in all subsequent listings and initial public offerings of Macau entities with all sort of activities. He has been acting in arbitrations in Hong Kong as an expert witness on Macau law.

He is co-author of the Macau Chapter of the book “International Franchise Sales Laws, Second Edition”, edited and published by the American Bar Association, and has published articles in the Asian Gaming Lawyer magazine.

Fong Kin Ip

Fong Kin Ip

Fong founded FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries in 2003 and he is a leading lawyer in Macau, specializing in civil and commercial law.

He is one of the few fully trilingual lawyers in Macau (Chinese, Portuguese and English) and has lectured Civil Law at the Law Faculty of the Macau University.

Miguel Quental

Miguel Quental

Joined FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries in 2007 and became a partner in 2014.

His areas of practice are mainly labour, civil and commercial. He is the lawyer responsible for the biggest labour litigation dispute in Macau and, according to the website of the Macau Courts, he is the lawyer with the highest number of attendances at Court Hearings in Macau.

He is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau since 2002 where teaches Introduction to Law, Labour Law and Commercial Law I and II and is the executive coordinator of the Bulletin of the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau.

He was instructor at the “Training and Improvement of Legal Language Course” and at the “Labour Law Training Course”, organized by the Legal and Judicial Training Centre of Macau, invited consultant for the Department of Juridical Reform in the project “Revision of the Commercial Code of Macau”, coordinator of the “Course of Labour Law for Inspectors of the Bureau of Labour and Employment” and of the “Advanced Course in Labour Law for Inspectors”, organized by the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau and instructor of the module “Labour Law” for the Course of Professional Training – Public Prosecutors, organized by Legal and Judicial Training Centre of Macau.

He is the author of the book on “Macau Labour Law”, often referred by lawyers and courts in labour disputes, and published several articles on Labour matters in the Bulletin of the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau.
